Chicago based artist Ellsworth Young, most noted for his paintings of landscapes, is credited for this powerful, frightening, and emotionally charged image. The occupation of Belgium served as a major propaganda theme of World War I. Horror stories of how the civilian population was treated, true or not, became fodder for the persuasion machine that was created to stir up the populace for a variety of causes, most having to do with raising money via bond issues. An unrestored poster with good color and an overall presentable appearance. It may have general signs of use such as edge wear, creases, chips, small tears, scuffs, smudges, or faint stains in the borders.
