- The Lincoln Cent began its mintage in 1909 and continues to be struck to this day
- Victor David Brenner’s original design showcased the Wheat Ears reverse until 1958
- The earliest examples of the 1909 Lincoln Cent included the designer’s initials, VDB, on the reverse
- The VDB variety only occurred in the 1909 issue
- Just 4 days after it was released, the VDB design was discontinued
- Condition Rarity: Significantly less than one tenth of 1% are graded in Gem Mint State 66 RD condition
- Only 573 finer known examples
- Condition Rarity occurs when few coins survive in high grades making them difficult to find
- Coins with the RD, or red, designation are among the most beautiful pieces as they have kept their original color
