- Morgan Dollars were struck from 1878 to 1921
- This example was struck at the Carson City Mint in 1879
- Only one third of the total mintage of the 1879-CC issue is of the rare Capped Die variety
- This variety was originally struck by a rusted die and then restruck with a clean die
- Absolute Rarity: Minuscule mintage of only 756,000 coins
- Absolute Rarity is when so few coins exist that finding one in any condition is difficult to do
- Due to the Pittman Act of 1918, nearly half of all Morgan Dollars were melted down, making Brilliant Uncirculated examples like these difficult to acquire
- Only about 2% of all Morgans have survived in Brilliant Uncirculated condition
- The only way that these coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition today is due to the GSA Hoard
