The 1878-S is the first year the Morgan Dollar was struck at the San Francisco Mint and had a mintage of 9,774,000. The Morgan Dollar was named after George T. Morgan. The obverse features Liberty`s profile wearing a Greek cap with the word LIBERTY on her hair band. To the left are seven stars and another six are to the right, 13 in total to represent the first thirteen colonies. The reverse side features a Bald Eagle containing seven tail feathers and wings outstretched with a small wreath surrounding it. The eagle`s talons clasp a branch and three arrows.
