$20 1908 No Motto Saint Gaudens NGC/PCGS MS65

Graded by PCGS or NGC

This stunning 1908-P No Motto Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle is graded Mint State 65 by either PCGS or NGC. Of all 1908-P No Motto Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles that were minted, only a limited .8% of them have been graded in Mint State 65 condition. The original design of the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle did not contain an inscription of the motto In God We Trust. The design was modified to include the motto partway through 1908. It was for less than two years, 1907 and part of 1908, that the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle did not contain the motto. In 1933, near the end of the Double Eagle series conclusion, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt passed Executive Order 6102. This executive order recalled gold from the American public in order to be melted down. As a result, rare gold coins like the 1908 No Motto Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle became even rarer to come across.
