With such a low Mint State 65 population, this Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle is considered a Condition Rarity. Coins like this 1914-S Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle became increasingly rare as a result of President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing Executive Order 6102 in 1933. This order sought to revive the American economy by recalling circulating American gold coins to be melted down.
