1914-S Saint Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle MS65

Description

The Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, was minted from 1907 to 1933. Often considered the most beautiful piece of coinage struck in American history, the Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle is truly an iconic coin. This stunning example was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1914 and has been graded in Mint State 65 condition. Out of all 1914-S Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagles struck, less than 1% have been graded in MS65 condition. With such a low Mint State 65 population, this Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle is considered a Condition Rarity. Coins like this 1914-S Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle became increasingly rare as a result of President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing Executive Order 6102 in 1933. This order sought to revive the American economy by recalling circulating American gold coins to be melted down.
