The Classic Gold Commemorative series was produced 1903 to 1926 and is composed of a total of thirteen coins. This near complete set of ten Classic Gold Commemorative coins comprises over two thirds of the whole series. Each of these coins were struck to commemorate a monumental event in United States history from the Louisiana Purchase to the construction of the Panama Canal. Although these coins were not struck for circulation, they were still produced by some of the most renowned US coin designers of all time, including Chief Engravers George Morgan and Charles Barber. Known for its minuscule mintages, the Classic Gold Commemorative series is composed of some of the greatest Absolute Rarities in US Numismatics.
