Forrest Fenn's Gold Treasure Found After Ten Years

Buried treasure is normally only found in books about pirates or films about wacky people trying to solve clues. But for the last ten years, a real-life adventure has unfolded for thousands of eager gold hunters. That all ended this past weekend, when someone finally found Forrest Fenn’s bronze chest.

“I can’t believe that after all of these years, Fenn’s legendary treasure hunt has finally ended,” said Senior Coin Buyer and Host of Rare Collectibles TV Jack McNamara. “As of now, there is no information about what specific coins were in the chest, but Rare Collectibles TV would love to find out if possible. Speaking as a numismatist, we are all treasure hunters at heart. This find speaks to the reason why we love coins so much – the history and mystique of coins and treasure makes this story so intriguing for so many.”

In 2010, veteran and art collector Forrest Fenn self-published a book titled “The Thrill of the Chase: A Memoir” which included a poem with clues to his hidden cache of gold and gems. Fenn had come up with the idea after surviving a terminal cancer diagnosis. He wanted to leave behind an exciting legacy which would allow others to share in the fun of searching for treasure.

Forrest Fenn placed his collection of artifacts in a unique bronze chest with art depicting knights ascending maiden’s towers. Among the collection are American Eagles and Double Eagles of unknown years, as well as gold nuggets and jade carved to resemble faces from China.

Currently, the man who won the treasure hunt has chosen not to identify himself, but Fenn confirmed on his website that the search is over. It is unknown what the winner will do with the treasure.

“If the finder wishes to share his treasure with other collectors, we would love to get the coins certified and offer them to our clients,” McNamara said.
