More About the 1976-2011 Kennedy Half Dollars Complete Set
These 57 Kennedy Half Dollars from 1976 to 2011 were all struck at the San Francisco Mint and graded Proof 69 with Deep Cameo designations by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). Of the 57 coins in this set, each issue has a Proof 69 DCAM population of 1.3% or less of its entire mintage. Included in this set is every Clad Kennedy struck from 1976 to 2011 as well as every Silver Proof Kennedy struck from 1992 to 2011. 1992 is a monumental year for the Kennedy Half Dollar series because it is the first time since 1964 that Kennedys were struck from 90% Silver.
As an added bonus, you will receive a 1979-S Type 2 Kennedy Half Dollar! This special 1979-S Type 2 Kennedy only makes up 5% of the entire 1979-S Kennedy mintage and is a perfect rarity to add to any collection. To tie it all together, each of these coins has earned Rick Tomaska’s Exceptional Cameo Contrast seal of approval. ECC seals are only given to coins that Rick Tomaska has personally inspected. Once these coins are approved to have the highest level of cameo contrast for their grades, Rick places an ECC seal on the holder of the coin.
John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States of America, was tragically assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. Hours after the assassination, Mint Director Eva Adams began initiating plans for a JFK memorial coin. Out of respect for George Washington, Jacqueline Kennedy suggested that John F. Kennedy be placed on the half dollar instead of the quarter. Even though this meant the production of the Franklin Half Dollar series would have to be cut to sixteen years instead of the mandated twenty-five, Congress unanimously passed a bill and the coin was put into production only two months later. Frank Gasparro and Gilroy Roberts were called on to create the design for the coin, which was heavily inspired by their previously created JFK Presidential medals. The immense popularity of the coin was showcased on the first day of sales as all 70,000 coins had sold out, but the line of people outside had not dwindled.
