- Cameo specialists, such as Rick, would consider T-70 to be the most spectacular cameo special mint set die produced by the mint and the current specimen is the finest known from this top die.
- Only the earliest examples displayed the level of cameo contrast you see on this coin. Unlike proofs, Special Mint Set coins were not individually handled and were subject to a much higher degree of wear and tear.
- For one of these earliest strikes from the top die to have survived in flawless MS68 is miraculous! In Rick’s own words, “One of the most stunning SMS Kennedy cameos die varieties known is the 1967 ‘Birthmark’ die, named for the birthmark shaped frost-fade spot on Kennedy’s temple, a characteristic of early strikes off this die.”
