Ketland Brass Barreled Flintlock Pistol

• An attractive brass barreled flintlock pistol marked W. Ketland & Co. on the lock.
• Overall good condition with Belgian proofed 'London' barrel which is about 54 caliber.
• Main spring is very strong on the action but the sear is likely worn as it will not catch and lock.
• Wood stock nice as refinished, missing a small section on left hand forend with brass oval escutcheon on the wrist.
• Overall a very attractive original flint made by one of England's premier gunmakers.
• Thomas Ketland & Co. was a firearms manufacturer founded in Birmingham, England c. 1760.
• W. Ketland was Thomas Ketland Sr's eldest son. He was originally a partner alongside his father and William Walker. He petitioned to liquidate his part in the company in 1800. The partnership was dissolved in 1801. He died in 1804 but the business carried on to at least 1831.
