$20 1908 w/ Motto St Gaudens Gold Double Eagle NGC/PCGS MS63

Struck in Philadelphia

The Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle, widely considered the most beautiful piece of American coinage ever created, was minted from 1907 to 1933. Due to President Theodore Roosevelt`s dislike of U.S. coinage at the time, he employed the famed sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, to redesign the Double Eagle. The original Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles did not contain the motto "In God We Trust," but due to public disapproval, the motto was added to the coin in 1908. Of the 156,258 1908 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles With Motto coins that were minted, only a limited 1,600 have been graded at Mint State 63.
