Description

18th Century Engraved & Carved Powder horn

  • A very interesting 18th century powder horn measuring approximately 13 inches overall with the base being about 2 1/2 inches wide.
  • Has a very unusual iron hinge at bottom attached to a trap door concealing a storage area at the base of the horn for caps or patch boxes.
  • Has the original owners initials E. L dated 1786.
  • Chip carved pattern on one side in the form of what appears to be a miter helmet with badge on top.
  • Shows a really nice mellow tone throughout and appears to have the original stopper present.
  • Overall a very interesting horn dating from the Napoleonic wars or just post revolutionary war, with very interesting features indeed.
  • Truly one of a kind!
