Description

Engraved 19th Century Powder Horn

  • A wonderful engraved 19th century powder horn depicting hunting scenes of big game and water fowl
  • It shows scratch-engraved scenes, including a calling bull moose standing next to a tree, American bison standing in grass, a flying water fowl in full flight and also has the original owner’s initials incised into the plug
  • Overall in very good to excellent condition for the age. This horn has a nice, even patina throughout with great tones and mellow colors
  • Tells the tale of a likely frontier hunter who engraved scenes that he saw during America’s expansion
  • Has brass hook present on one side and missing the stopper
  • Overall wear consistent with age
  • A very pleasing folk art piece of Americana with great eye appeal
