This stunning 1905 Lewis and Clark gold dollar was struck for the Lewis and Clark Exposition held in Portland, Oregon. Issued in both 1904 and 1905, the Lewis and Clark Exposition gold dollars helped finance the creation of a bronze memorial of Sacagawea in Portland Oregon. Only 10,041 examples were struck in 1905, just a handful more than were minted in 1904. A collection of early gold commemoratives is not complete without both the 1904 and 1905 Lewis and Clark gold dollars!
