The Buffalo Nickel, designed by James Earle Fraser, was created during the American Coin Renaissance and minted from 1913 to 1938. Out of all Nickel designs, the Buffalo Nickel is a clear favorite among American collectors. This particular example was struck at the San Francisco Mint during the coin`s first year of issue in 1913 and graded VG10. Type 2 Buffalo Nickels are characterized by a recessed mound beneath the buffalo where the denomination is engraved. This issue has the third lowest mintage of the entire series and as a result is a desirable coin in all grades.
