The Morgan Dollar, designed by George T. Morgan, was minted from 1878 to 1904 and once again in 1921. This example was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1879 and is graded in Mint State 64 condition. While there are no mint records specifically for the Reverse of 78 variety, it is believed that only a miniscule 250,000 to 500,000 examples were struck. One of the highly sought-after varieties of Morgan Dollar, this 1879-S examples showcases the original Reverse of 78, which features a top arrow feather on the reverse that is parallel to the other arrows as well as a flat-breasted eagle. Out of every 1879-S Reverse of 78 Morgan Dollar struck, only 813 have been graded in Mint State 64 condition with just 134 graded higher. With such a low MS64 population, this coin is a tremendous Condition Rarity.
