Among the 8,900,000 1880-S Morgan Dollars, only a miniscule 173 are graded Mint State 63 with a PL, or Proof Like, designation. A Proof Like designation is only given to the few Mint State coins that exhibit deep mirrored fields and incredible frosted devices. Of all 1880-S PL Morgan Dollars, only 250 are graded higher than MS63, most of which are only one grade higher at MS64. The obverse depicts Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with "Liberty" written on the headband. An open winged bald eagle with seven tail feathers dominates the reverse. Both the obverse and reverse designs were created by George T. Morgan.
