The Proof Kennedy Half Dollar was first struck in 1964 with one variety, known as the Accented Hair. The Accented Hair variety was the original design for Kennedy Half Dollar, however Jacqueline Kennedy disliked the detailing on JFK’s hair and asked that it be changed. After about 100,000 Accented Hair Kennedy Half Dollars were minted, JFK’s hair was reworked and the new Type 2 design has been used ever since. This specific example is one of only 41 Proof Accented Hair Kennedy Half Dollars to be graded in Proof 67 condition and housed in the Tomaska Signature Series holder. With such a low mintage and even lower population, this 1964 Accented Hair Kennedy Half Dollar is a tremendous Absolute and Condition Rarity.
