Model 1840 Mass. Militia Staff Officer's Sword by N.P. Ames


This 1840 Massachusetts Militia Officer’s Sword is made by the Ames Manufacturing Company and dates from the Mexican War era. It includes a stunning knight head pommel and a silver handle engraved with acorn pattern motif. Present on the handle is a chain guard. Engraved on the langet is a beautiful rendition of the Massachusetts State Seal. It has a frosty single fuller blade that is profusely engraved with the Massachusetts State Seal on one side and a large winged spread eagle on the other. The blade is in near excellent condition. The brass scabbard is engraved with a large American eagle and scroll and leaf engraving. A panoply of arms is also engraved on the scabbard which does have a few minor dings present but is overall in very good condition.
