1916-P McKinley G$1 Gold Commemorative Dollar MS66

Description
The 1916-P McKinley Memorial Gold Dollar, designed by Charles Barber and George Morgan, was created to raise funds for a memorial of 25th President William McKinley in his hometown of Niles, Ohio. Although the relationship between Morgan and Barber is generally thought to have been contentious, they partnered to create a handful coins, one of which was this stunning gold dollar. Initially, 100,000 of these coins were struck, but shortly after, a majority of the coins were melted down by the U.S. Mint. After the mass melt of these iconic coins took place, only a minuscule 15,000 examples had survived, making this stunning gold coin a tremendous Absolute Rarity. With only a total of 1,005 coins graded in Mint State 66 condition between PCGS and NGC, this example is also known as a tremendous Condition Rarity.
