The Kennedy Half Dollar, designed by Frank Gasparro and Gilroy Roberts, was minted starting in 1964 and continues to be minted to this day. The first year of issue for this coin was struck from 90% silver. In 1965, the coin was struck from 40% silver until 1971 when the composition was changed to 0%. Now, for the first time in U.S. history, a Half Dollar is being struck from .999 fine silver! This monumental 2019-S Kennedy Half Dollar, graded Proof 70 UCAM by NGC, is now struck from pure silver! As a testament to this fact, the labels of these coins will indicate them as the "First .999 Fine Silver Half Dollar." In addition, these coins were also struck on the First Day of Issue and will have an FDI label!
