The Kennedy Half Dollar, designed by Frank Gasparro and Gilroy Roberts, was first minted in 1964 and continues to be produced to this day. This specific Kennedy Half Dollar was struck at the Denver Mint in 2019, making it the most recent release of this iconic coin. Unlike many Kennedys before it, the 2019-D example features the original 1964 design of John F. Kennedy. Out of all 2019-D Kennedy Half Dollars struck, NGC has only graded a limited 1,489 in Mint State 68 Proof Like condition. Although a Proof Like coin has been struck for circulation, it still exhibits the stunning qualities of a Proof coin. Proof Like finishes only occur on the first few coins that were struck from a fresh pair of dies, making them incredibly difficult to acquire compared to their standard Mint State counterparts.
