The Morgan Dollar, designed by George T. Morgan, was minted from 1878 to 1904 and for one final year in 1921. This specific example was struck at the legendary New Orleans Mint in 1900, and thus, bears the illustrious "O" mintmark. What makes this coin truly special is that it bears a unique and rare variety. This variety is known as the "O over CC," which occurred when a New Orleans mintmark was punched over a Carson City mintmark die. This sought-after variety has an estimated mintage of about 1,200,000, but is scarce in uncirculated grades. Out of all 1900 O over CC Morgan Dollars, only about 0.2% have been graded in Mint State 63 condition like this one!
