The history of the dollar can be traced all the way back to 1484 when it was first introduced in Tyrol. Originating as the German word thaler, the word was used to describe large silver coins. Before long, many countries of Europe derived their own word for the currency using the word thaler as the base. On April 2, 1792 even the United States Congress authorized a silver dollar which was first produced in 1794. Since then such dollars have been minted like the Morgan silver dollar, American Silver Eagle, and so many more.
