Among the 12,000,000 1881-S Morgan Dollars, only a miniscule .05% are graded Mint State 64 with a PL, or Proof Like, designation. A Proof Like designation is only given to the few Mint State coins that exhibit deep mirrored fields and incredible frosted devices. The obverse depicts Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with "Liberty" written on the headband. An open winged bald eagle with seven tail feathers dominates the reverse. Both the obverse and reverse designs, which are considered to be among the most beautiful in U.S. numismatics, were created by George T. Morgan.
