Among the 8,900,000 1880-S Morgan Dollars, only a miniscule 191 are graded Mint State 64 with a PL, or Proof Like, designation. A Proof Like designation is only given to the few Mint State coins that exhibit deep mirrored fields and incredible frosted devices. Of all 1880-S PL Morgan Dollars, only 59 are graded higher than MS64. Out of these 59 coins, 51 are only one grade higher at MS65 and 8 are graded at MS66. The obverse depicts Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with "Liberty" written on the headband. An open winged bald eagle with seven tail feathers dominates the reverse. Both the obverse and reverse designs were created by George T. Morgan.
