This 1880-CC Morgan Dollar, graded Mint State 65, was struck at the legendary Carson City Mint of the Wild West, which was only in operation from 1870-1893. Only 2% of all Morgan Dollars were struck at the Carson City Mint, making the "CC" mintmark of this coin a spectacle to behold. From the 495,000 Morgan Dollars struck at Carson City in 1880, only .18% of them are graded MS65. Only 152 of these coins exist in a higher grade: 151 in MS66 and 1 in MS67. During 1964 a surplus of uncirculated Morgan Dollars were found by the Government Services Administration (GSA) and sold at their highly acclaimed GSA auction. Coming from the illustrious GSA hoard of 1964, these coins all come with a GSA designation.
