Civil War Pay Department Epaulettes

Description

These Pay Department epaulettes come complete with their original tin storage boxes and are in outstanding condition. Generally, epaulettes like these are not preserved in such good condition as these examples are. These epaulettes were worn by U.S. Pay Department Officers during the Civil War from 1861 to 1865. The top boards and sides shine with a breathtaking, gold luster while the silk and Moroccan leather undersides show a robust, dark red. The bullion work on these epaulettes is truly stunning and of the highest quality. The pillows are finely embroidered with “PD,” for Pay Department. These stunning epaulettes are great examples of high condition, which is an incredibly scarce variation of Civil War epaulettes.
