Sole 1933 Gold Double Eagle Sold for $18.87 million
A truly one-of-a-kind sale was made today when Sotheby's auctioned off the only 1933 Gold Double Eagle available to be privately owned for $18.87 million dollars. It was estimated to sell for as much as $15 million but surpassed that and made history. The 1933 Double Eagle last sold at auction for $7.59 million in 2002.
