Set of 6: 1873-S - 1878-S Liberty Head Gold Double Eagles PCGS MS61
Liberty Head Gold Double Eagles from the San Francisco Mint struck after 1849 are known for being authentic California Gold Rush coins. This set of six Double Eagles begins with an 1873-S example of the “Closed 3” variety. Spanning across both the Type 2 and Type 3 varieties, this set gives a nice overview of what the San Francisco Mint has to offer. Type 2 Liberty Head Double Eagles were the first in the series to include the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” above the eagle on the reverse. The 1877-S and 1878-S examples come from Type 3, which has the value of the coin written as “TWENTY DOLLARS” on the reverse. Each of these coins is known to be scarce in MS61 condition.
