1958 Franklin Half Dollar Tomaska Plate Coin PF68 DCAM Everest
This 1958 Proof Franklin Half Dollar is one of only 42 that have been graded PF68, but it is the one and only Tomaska Plate coin example. A plate coin is one that is used in a book to exemplify the characteristics of a coin. This specific coin was pictured on the cover of Rick Tomaska’s Softcover Third Edition of “A Guide Book of Franklin & Kennedy Half Dollars.” 1958 Franklins are particularly difficult to find in high grades due to the appearance of milk spots that coincided with this year. In addition, this issue is known to be incredibly scarce in Cameo and Deep Cameo due to the use of worn out master dies to create new dies. In order to preserve the detailing of these dies, the pickling time was decreased, effectively lowering the amount of Cameo Contrast finishes imparted onto the coins. This one of a kind Tomaska Plate Coin was placed with a happy customer by Rare Collectibles TV’s Private Advisory Coin Team.
