1909-O Indian Head Gold Half Eagle NGC MS64
The Indian Head Gold Half Eagle, designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, was minted from 1908 to 1916 and once again in 1929. This specific Indian Head Gold Half Eagle was struck at the New Orleans Mint in 1909 and is graded in Mint State 64 condition. Only a miniscule 34,200 examples of the 1909 Indian Head Gold Half Eagle were struck before operations at the New Orleans Mint ceased that year under orders of Mint Director Frank Leach. Out of every 1909-O Indian Head Gold Half Eagle struck, only 15 have been graded in Mint State 64 condition with just 5 graded higher. With the lowest mintage of the Indian Head Half Eagle series and an even lower MS64 population, this coin is not only an Absolute and Condition Rarity, but also one of the finest known examples of the issue.
