  • 1907 High Relief Saint Gaudens are largely considered the most beautiful U.S. ever made!
  • Of the two varieties, the Wire Rim and Flat Rim, the Flat Rim is by far the scarcer type. PCGS has certified 4,400 Wire Rim examples in any condition compared to 857 for the Flat Rim.
  • In MS66, PCGS has certified a total of 77 Wire Rim specimens in MS66 with 23 finer compared to 64 Flat Rim specimens in MS66 and only 15 finer!
  • Each 1907 High Relief received five blows apiece at a pressure of 172 tons from the Mint’s hydraulic press.
  • Unfortunately, the coins were impractical and too difficult to produce large scale, thus their relief was lowered along with the Roman numerals
  • changed to Arabic numerals to further expedite the manufacturing process.
  • Another 361,667 Saint Gaudens Double Eagles struck with the lower relief dated 1907, were distributed and the design would remain virtually unchanged throughout the remainder of the series, other then of course the addition of the motto IN GOD WE TRUST to the coin part-way through 1908.
