The Liberty Head Gold Double Eagle, designed by James B. Longacre, was minted from 1850 to 1907. In 1882, the Carson City Mint struck 59,962 examples of the Liberty Head Double Eagle. This example has been graded in Mint State 61 condition. Out of all 1883-CC Saint-Gaudens, only 145 have been graded in MS61 condition with just 46 finer known examples. With so few examples graded higher than this one, this stunning coin is not only a Condition Rarity, but is also among the finest known examples of the issue.
