1879-CC Capped Die Morgan MS65 CAC

The Morgan Dollar, designed by George T. Morgan, was minted between 1878 to 1904 and once again in 1921. This example was struck at the Carson City Mint in 1879 and is graded in Mint State 65 condition. Known as the Capped Die variety, this coin was originally struck by a rusted die and then restruck with a clean die. It is estimated that only one third of the total mintage of 1879-CC Morgan Dollars are of the Capped Die variety making them sought after by numismatists. Out of every 1879-CC Capped Die Morgan Dollar struck, only 19 examples have been graded in Mint State 65 condition with just 5 examples graded higher. With a low mintage of only 756,000 examples and an even lower MS65 population, this coin is not only an Absolute Rarity but also a tremendous Condition Rarity.
