1864 2c Large Motto 2 Cents Piece MS67 RD
As the first coin series to feature the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST”, the two cent series is incredibly special for US coinage. The first of issue for the short-run two cent series is 1864 and two varieties were struck. This example is of the Large Motto variety, which showcases a larger version of “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the obverse. The two cent series is popular as it is an obscure denomination and only struck for 10 years. With only 4 graded in Mint State 67 Red condition and none graded higher, this coin is not only a Condition Rarity but also the finest known of the issue.
