C. 275-215 BC Ancient Greece Poseidon with Trident Reverse Copper Coin NGC Fine - Ancients - Coins

Description

This copper Poseidon example was struck over 2,200 years ago in Syracuse, Sicily and is graded in Fine condition. Designed under the rule of Hieron II, circa 275 to 215 BC, this coin was uniquely hand struck onto a copper planchet. On the obverse of this coin is an image of the god of sea, Poseidon. Flip the coin over to the reverse to witness a pictograph display of Poseidon’s mighty trident with dolphins swimming between the tides. Ancient coins such as this one from the Poseidon collection stand as pieces of history, showcasing how civilizations created currency which inspired future generations.
