Beginning in 1986, the United States reintroduced gold coinage to the American people in the form of the American Gold Eagle series. After 35 years of mintage, the U.S. Mint changed the reverse of this iconic coin in 2021. The obverse has also been improved, bringing it closer to Saint-Gaudens' vision when he originally made the design for the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle in 1907. This Burnished 1 oz American Gold Eagle was struck at the West Point Mint in 2022 and has been graded in perfect Mint State 70 condition. The planchets of burnished AGEs have been polished prior to striking, giving them a unique finish unlike standard American Gold Eagles. Burnished AGEs are known for having much lower mintages than their standard counterparts. To add to the rarity of these coins, they will be housed in the PCGS exclusive Advanced Release holders. Advanced Release holders indicated that this coin was one of the very limited group of coins made available to select distributors before the launch of the coin.
