1908 No Motto Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle NGC/PCGS MS64

Description

The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, named after its designer Augustus Saint-Gaudens, was minted from 1907 to 1933. Often considered the most beautiful piece of coinage struck in American history, the Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle is truly an iconic coin. The earliest issues of Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles did not contain the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST", but due to public disapproval the motto was added to the coin in 1908. As one of the only examples in the series to showcase the originally intended “No Motto” design, this 1908-P Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is a highly sought-after numismatic treasure. This stunning Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1908 and has been graded in Mint State 64 condition.

Coins like this 1908-P Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle became increasingly rare as a result of President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing Executive Order 6102 in 1933. This order sought to revive the American economy by recalling circulating American gold coins to be melted down.
