1900-P Liberty Head $20 Gold Double Eagle MS63

The $20 Liberty Head Gold Double Eagle, designed by James B. Longacre, were minted from 1850 to 1907. This turn-of-the-century example was struck at the Philadelphia Mint during 1900 and is graded in Mint State 63 condition. Due to the passing of Executive Order 6102, a large amount of 1900-P Liberty Heads were melted down. This order sought to revive the American economy by recalling circulated gold to be melted down. It is because of this order that gold coins of this era, such as the 1900 Liberty Head Double Eagle, are so rare. Out of all 1900-P Liberty Head Double Eagles minted, only about 2% have been graded in MS63 condition between PCGS and NGC. With such a low MS63 population, this coin is considered a Condition Rarity.
