The Morgan Dollar, designed by George T. Morgan, was minted from 1878 to 1904 and then once again in 1921. This example was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1881 and is graded in Mint State 63 condition. What makes this 1881-S Morgan Dollar truly unique is its stunning toning. The reverse displays neon crescent toning with baby blue, vibrant gold, magenta, cyan, and emerald hues and bright white surfaces otherwise. The crescent toning on this coin is caused by the way it was stored, indicating that another coin was stacked on top of it. The exposed area went through the process of toning.
