1820-1840 United States Mounted Artillery Officer's Sword

A stunning, early American Mounted Artillery Officer’s Sword showing wonderful dark patina throughout the scabbard and hilt. This example has a finely carved bone grip and a single branch knuckle bow which is twisted in form. This twisted knuckle bow is a design rarely seen on swords. The langet bares a single, five-pointed star on both sides which is often associated with Texas. The scabbard has wonderful engraving in the areas around the suspension rings and the drag.  Displayed on the center of the scabbard is a finely engraved American eagle standing on a shield. The blade has remnants of blue and gold panel showing a panoply of arms and the retailer, “S.B. Pond and CO.”  This sword features a large, wide and curved blade for mounted use. The hilt is slightly loose but solidly intact. This is a remarkable example of a Mexican War Era Mounted Artillery Officer's Sword.
